How long should I wait to straighten my hair again?

I chemically straightened my hair way back in May of 2007 with the Olive Oil hair straightener, which is designed for African American hair. I am Caucasian, but it worked pretty well. Since then, my hair has become curly again, so on Sunday I straightened it again. This time, I wanted to try something designed for Caucasian hair to see if it worked any better. I used Thermal Ionic from Sally Beauty Supply, which is designed for formerly color treated hair. It was a long process that probably should have been done by a hair dresser, and although my hair is significantly straighter than it was before, there is still a lot of wave and kink in it. I want to purchase the Olive Oil straightener again, but I'm wondering how long I should wait?

Also, when I used the Thermal Ionic, I did not leave the product in my hair as long as it should have. I also shampooed my hair earlier than was suggested (about 12 hours later, instead of the suggested 48).

honestly, wait as long as you can. all those chemicals wreck havoc on the quality of your hair, and if you are using a relaxer, you run the risk of literally melting your hair off (did you know that relaxer are made of the same ingredients as hair removers like nair?).

when you do straighten it again, do not mess with the previously straightened hair. only retouch what needs to be straightened.

Why can't you follow the instructions properly...? Almost everything chemically based that you use in your hair like a straightener needs to set... longer than 12 hours....
