I'm not sure if it's true or not but people say that one of the causes of split ends are from girls using a hair straightener, also does the cold atmosphere (like winter) make you get split ends too? I know it makes your hair a tad frizzy and hard to control..

Yech. I got lots of split ends WITHOUT any straightening, and when I DO straighten (which is almost never), I feel my hair frying, and my split ends exemplifying.

i dont think cold atmosphere gives you split ends..it just makes it very dry.

Mine used to do it all the time because i straighten my hair everyday. I asked my hairdresser, and she said just use lots of conditionar or go to a salon and ask for something that can treat that..

using a sraightener dries your hair out and makes it brittle so it's easy to get split ends if you do it a lot. I heard that cold weather and high heat will do damage to your hair. They have different sampoos and condintioners for cold weather and high humidity!

I did a permanent Chi system straitening and mine is ok and it's been months ... I do spot places now and then for occasional waves and no problems, but I use really good shampoos and my hair is not frizzy at all, but if you use the cheap stuff for straitening you will get frizz, we own a salon... I see it all the time...

I have long, curly hair that I straighten every day. I really pay attention to the products I use--more natural products, like Giovanni Frizz Be Gone to straighten with my hair dryer.
I don't usually have split ends when I get my hair cut, but I think it's because I use deep and reconstruction conditioner, gentle shampoos and I only brush my hair during styling--I don't use a brush again for the rest of the day (advice from a stylist). Instead, I just use my fingers to straighten it up if it gets messy again.
I think if you manage it properly, you should be fine.

YES yes yes...straighteners cause split ends because the heat applied to the hair (constantly) damages the hair and causes it to split...i'm not sure about cold air but i am sure about the hair straighteners. If you do intend on straightening your hair a lot, just use a damage control shampoo, such as ''dove intense damage'' or ''pantene pro-v'' 3- month damage fix shampoo and conditioner...it won't clear up the damage because that's not possible, but it makes your hair feel and LOOK un-damaged.

yes extremely bad split ends........if your going to do it though i would use a flat iron rather than any chemicals.... 1.)flat iron makes it look so much healthier and you dont have to use anything in your hair even if you are black if your hair is long enough this is a great way to do it 2.) chemicals are harsh not only to your hair but if you get it on your skin or eyes it could seriously hurt you so stick with the flat iron... look at the watts on the iron the more thicker your hair is the more watts you will want.....

Yes but there are some straigheteners that will not, but any who you can use heat resitant products they will lessen your risk of split ends. There is also brushes/combs that rip of split ends.

yeah it does. i use a straightner about everywhere and it gives me split ends all the time. when you apply heat to the hair ( straightner,hairdryer,curling iron etc..) it just basically damages it which causes split ends...everybody gets split ends though...if you have a straighner with temperature settings try putting in on the lowest it will help a little bit. but its nothing to worry about

yes they can give you split ends, but there are products you can use to helps prevent them and repair them.

Yes and no. You need to use a straightening spray and use a decent straightener. It doesn't have to be an expensive one but a decent one. Look for one that more than two coatins on the plates. And the higher the degrees I think the more chance of spilt ends.

you are using massive heat and crushing your hair
between to plates.
The best way to protect it is by using heat defence spray, this stops the damage and can keep split ends at bay

Just be careful not to use too much heat on your hair. Try to keep it moisturized, especially in the winter, and ceramic products are really good in my opinion.

Split ends is the result of over processed and/or damaged hair. Anything you do to your hair damages it. That includes hair driers, straighteners, and any other heat product. Using too much hairspray isn't good, either. Walking outside into the sunlight is damaging your hair. It is so important to maintain a healthy balanced diet with lots of vitamins and minerals. Getting your hair trimmed every 6 weeks - 2 months keeps your hair healthy too.
I also use Neutrogena Triple Moisture leave in cream. It has uv filters and conditioners to combat the damage your hair recieves daily. Go to walmart and get some, and although you cant stop all damage and split ends, you can prevent most of it!

Straighteners definetaly damage your hair. If you use it everyday or really often itll cause split ends and breakage. Ceramic irons are better but do damage.
