Chi hair dryer contains lead and smells like burnt hair?

I have purchased a pink chi hair dryer and the box said that it contained lead. Is that something that is not good to use if it contains lead? I seen on the other red and black ones they don't contain lead. Recently when I've been using my hair dryer it smells like burnt hair, anyone else have this problem? I was thinking about getting a hair straightener from Chi, but i'm not so sure now. I've looked into Solia brand, not sure if they are any good. I also seen that Chi only guarantees their products for 1 year, and someone said a lifetime, not sure which one? Thanks for your help!

CHi Hairdryers are no better than any other hairdryer... however... their flat irons are one of the best on the market. The smell is because your hair is probably getting stuck in the back part of the dryer and then getting burned. I don't think it has anything to do with lead. Chi products other than the flat iron are not worth the price in my opinion =)

Don't shy away from their flat irons though... they are great!

You shouldn't hold the hair dryer so close to your hair, then it won't burn!

I just answered a question like this. Princess has a flat iron that is making her hair smell like it is burned. I don't know if her's is a Chi. I wouldn't think the lead could hurt you, you're not ingesting it.

  1. Lead can hurt you even if you are not ingesting it. It can go through your skin if you touch it with your hands and you breath in lead molecules when they are heated. Lead is synergistic with other metals, including mercury in flu shots and aluminum in Gardasil, DTap (or TDaP), Hepatitis B vaccine, Meningococcal vaccine, Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, and HiB vaccine.
The chemicals you put on your skin in makeup, lipstick, skin-care products, hair care products (go through the scalp) and those you use in straightening and styling your hair all have an additive affect and the build up in your body over time. Research shows this may be one of the factors that predispose some infants and children to serious vaccine-injury, including autism, when they receive vaccinations that contain mercury, aluminum and formaldehyde.
